Welcome to the Buddhist Temple of Chicago (BTC)
  • Office hours: 10am-4pm weekdays.
  • English language services: 11:00 a.m.
  • Shotsuki Hoyo (monthly memorial) services, USUALLY the 1st Sunday of each month (Please call 773-334-4661 to confirm).
  • No Services Sunday before Labor Day
  • Open discussion group after services 2nd Sunday of the month.
  • Guest Speaker Series, usually the 3rd Sunday of the month.
  • Japanese language services: 1:00 p.m., usually 1st Sunday each month (Please call 773-334-4661 to confirm), also
    • New Year’s Day (joint service at 11am, followed by Japanese buffet and sake toast)
    • Spring O-Higan (followed by lunch--two seatings)
    • Hana Matsuri (joint service at 11am, followed by lunch)
    • O-Bon (followed by lunch--two seatings)
    • Fall O-Higan (followed by lunch--two seatings)
    • BTC Anniversary (Sunday closest to October 8, joint service at 11am, followed by lunch)
    • Ho-on-ko (Sunday after Thanksgiving, followed by lunch--two seatings).

Activities of Other Organizations at BTC
  • American Buddhist Association (ABA) - an independent organization, founded by Rev. Gyomay Kubose, whose purpose is to study and make known the principles of Buddhism and to encourage the understanding and appreciation of those principles. The ABA co-sponsors with Bright Dawn Homespread the Zazen (sitting meditation) at BTC:
    • May-October, 1st and 3rd Sundays at 9 a.m.
    • November-April All Thursday evenings:
      7:00pm to 7:30 - Introduction: Basics and review for beginners
      7:30 - Opening sitting Zen
      8:00 - Teaching book review: The Joy of Living by Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche
      8:45 - Closing sitting Zen
    • November-April All Sunday mornings: 8:30am to 9:00 - Introduction: Basics and review for beginners
      9:00 - Sitting Zen
      9:20 - Walking / Moving Zen
      9:40 - Sitting Zen
      10:00 - Dharma Talk
