BEC classes are open to all people of the Buddhist community and to anyone interested in learning about Buddhism or any of the other subjects taught. Other course offerings will be posted to this website in the near future. Schedules subject to change. 2007-08 WINTER SCHEDULE OTHER CLASSES
Monthly Sutra Study Class - (Join at any time)
Usually the 3rd or 4th Sun. (depending on schedule) after service (around 12:30pm)

Next classes scheduled for January 20 and February 17 (tentative). We are reading the Sutta Nipata’s “Quiet Person” chapter, where the Buddha describes the true sage as one who acts independently, free of the egoistic craving for praise and avoidance of criticism. (Prior Buddhism study not required. Join at any time.)
Wednesday evenings at 7pm

. The Wednesday study group is on break Dec. 26 and Jan. 2. “The Burning Self” Haya Akegarasu’s Spirit of Renewal Wednesday evenings at 7pm – starting January 9th We will be reading selections from Shout of Buddha and discussing how Akegarasu’s dynamic comeback after his period of despair has shaped the presentation of Buddhism at our temple and our own encounters with the Teachings.(Prior Buddhism study not required. Join at any time.)

We cordially invite you to participate in our Children's Dharma School. If you have a young child or children whom you would like to introduce to the Teachings, please contact Dharma School parents for details. Classes will be on the 2nd & 4th Sundays from September to mid-June during the 11 am service. Classes will also meet on Buddhist holidays that fall on a different Sunday from the 2nd & 4th. All children welcome. There is no charge for these classes, but occasional fees for craft projects of field trips may be assessed. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

2nd Sun. Monthly Discussion Group (Join at any time)

Following the lead of BTC's founder, Rev. Gyomay M. Kubose, a discussion group has been re-established at BTC. We intend to follow Kubose-sensei's idea of developing an American Buddhism together with an understanding of "Everyday Suchness." This discussion group, meeting the second Sunday of the month, after services at 12:30pm, will discuss the application of Buddhism to our everyday life. For more information email Bill.

Japanese Language for Adults and Children age 6 and up
Winter Term begins Sat., Jan. 12, 2008 for 10 weeks. Classes are from 10am-noon. Tuition discounts for BTC members. Call 773-334-4661 for enrollment details.

Japanese Buddhist Calligraphy with Rev. Yukei Ashikaga

Learn to Meditate
The Harmony Zen Group sponsors Zazen (sitting meditation) at BTC, facilitated by Tom Yau. We meet 1st and 3rd Sun. May-Nov. at 9am, and every Sun. from Nov.-Apr. Please join us! ALL ARE WELCOME beginners and seasoned meditators. For more information, please email meditation@budtempchi.org.
